About Us 

  • Sri Palam Silk Sarees - set up in 2003 from a quaint little shop in Pondy Bazaar.
  • Started by Ms. Jeyasree Ravi - daughter of Dr. Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetty and wife of Mr. P J Ravi, son of the Sri Kumaran Stores family.
  • Right from the beginning, had the single minded vision of making silk popular with younger women.
  • Identified problems that put off young women from silk and addressed them through their range:
    • Made the sarees light weight.
    • Replaced traditional colours (like blues and reds) and designs (mango, paisley, temple, etc) with trendy colors (pastels, pinks, etc) and designs (geometric shapes, any possible graphic design!).
    • Used softer silk which while continuing to be pure handloom, pure pattu and pure zari, was much easier to drape and handle.
  • Popular for their muhurtham collections.
  • Also renowned for their concept sarees released over the years which:
    • Spark a lot of discussion over the sheer audacity or bravado of the idea.
    • Help women identify real problems they face while wearing sarees (saree with a pouch, golusu pattu, corporate silk, etc) and simplify life.
    • From a business end, help drive footfalls to just see the concepts but ensures that the walk-in purchases something atleast.
  • Expanded the T Nagar store to include an annexe in 2009.
  • Hosted first ever fashion show for silk sarees in December 2009 in Chennai – Silkline '10.
  • Conducted Silkline '11 in September 2010.
  • Opened first branch in Alwarpet in June 2011.
  • Conducted Silkline '12 in September 2011.
  • Enabled online shopping on their website in December 2011.
  • Opened 3rd store in Chennai in Annanagar in Feb 2012.
  • Opened 4th store and first in Coimbatore in June 2012, at Cross Cut Road, the hub for textile shopping in the city.
  • Opened 5th Store and first in Bengaluru in September 2012 at Jayanagar, right next to the stores of the other biggies in the industry.
  • In 2012, launched two new concept sarees, the Slim Fit Silk Saree and the UltraLite Fusion Silk - the latter launched in June mixed Silk & Silk Cotton to give the wearer the grandeur of silk and the convenience and comfort of silk cotton.
  • Hosted Silkline '13 in September 2012 - launched their own bi-annual magazine Silkline, at the event.
  • Silkline '13 saw the launch of 2 more concepts in the Fusion range - Freestyle Fusion Silk & Flip Style Fusion Silk - the former being a saree which can also be used as a half saree, a churidhar or a ghagra while the Flip style is 2 completely different design sarees on the front and back side.
  • 2013 saw Palam take it's brand to a national stage with a sponsorship deal with Mr. Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment for in-film placement of Palam sarees in the mega blockbuster, Chennai Express. Palam Silks sarees were styled by Mr. Manish Malhotra and adorned by the leading lass, Deepika Padukone in the movie. The sarees were made available at all Palam stores and on this website as the Chennai Express Palam Silks Collection.
  • Husband Mr. P.J. Ravi personally assists in all saree selections & procurement.
